Best Budget Friendly Places To Visit In May

Carnival San Fransisco

How to find cheap flights in May?

  • Be adventurous. Look for a deal rather than a destination.
  • Be a travel hacker. Travel during “unpopular” times – early morning, late evening.
  • Be an explorer. Consider departing outside of your regular airport.
  • Be a bargain hunter. Look at long layovers as a bonus destination.

Savannah, GA

Spring brings pleasantly mild temperatures, ideal for walking around Savannah’s tree-lined streets and stopping at one of the many squares that make the city unique and inviting. One of my favorite places to hang out and admire the landscape is Forsyth Park with its famous fountain. Modeled after the fountains found in Place de la Concorde in Cuzco, Peru, it was added to the North end of the park in 1858. Head down to River Street for restaurants, bars, and shops as well as a view of historic buildings.  Notably First African Baptist Church, the oldest black church in North America. Also visit the Juliet Gordon Low Birthplace, home to prominent Savannah citizen Juliette Gordon Low, founder of the Girls Scouts. Want to cool off and relax, drive 20mins out the city toward Tybee Island to enjoy a day at the beach!

Portland, Oregon

The Portland Rose Festival honors the blooms that appear throughout the city in spring, beginning with fireworks on May 24. Festivities continue over three weekends (May 24-27, May 31-June 2, and June 7-9) with concerts, a scavenger hunt, carnival-style entertainment, and Fleet Week on the final weekend.

San Francisco

Spring is a good time to visit thanks to its mild temperatures and lack of rain (compared to other parts of California).

Bay to Breakers
Bay To Breakers 2018

Held May 19, it's one of the most popular 12K races in the country. It's also famous for the creative costumes people wear while running (and for the few runners who wear nothing at all). The route goes from The Embarcadero, across town, through Golden Gate Park and ends at the ocean.

Carnival San Fransisco

If you can't make Carnival in Rio or Trinidad, attend the 41st annual San Fransisco Carnival. The 2–day festival will be held May 25th and May 26th on Harrison Street between 16th and 24th Streets. Experience global cuisine, international music, dance, arts & crafts, and other fun activities and entertainment on every street corner for the entire family to enjoy.

About a half hour outside of Tucson is Saguaro National Park. It’s home to the nation’s largest cacti, which flower in May. You’ll see pinks, reds, yellows and other vibrant colors sprinkled all around the cacti of the national park. The scenery will captivate photographers, painters and nature lovers alike.

The Kentucky Derby horserace is held during the first Saturday in May each year in Louisville, Kentucky. It’s the pinnacle event capping the two-week-long Kentucky Derby Festival. While in Louisville, you can also visit the Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory, tour bourbon distilleries, and even zipline in a cavern

Amsterdam, Netherlands

In April and May, you can count on tulips to be in bloom in the Netherlands. Fly into Amsterdam and take a day trip to Keukenhof to see fields of tulips and stunning tulip displays around the enormous garden grounds. Keukenhof stays open until mid-May and is not to be missed!
