Breast Cancer In Men

What you didn’t know………………

According to the American Cancer Society

The risk of men getting breast cancer is 1/10th of 1% (1 in 1,000)*
About 1,990 new cases of invasive breast cancer in men (US) will be diagnosed in 2008*
In 2008, about 450 men will die from breast cancer in the US*

The best strategy for reducing the number of deaths caused by breast cancer is prevention and early detection. For example, maintaining ideal body weight and restricting alcohol consumption can lower the risk of breast cancer in men. Early detection has proved more challenging because men tend to ignore lumps and only see a physician when lumps becomes larger. That’s why men are generally diagnosed at far advance stages than women, which reduces odds for successful treatment.

The prognosis for men with breast cancer was once thought to be greater than women, but recent studies have not found this to be true. Men and women with the same stage of breast cancer have a fairly similar outlook for survival.

Ladies make sure you pass this information on to the men in your life.

I didn't know that alcohol contributed to breast cancer in men. I've head that one beer a day or one glass or red wine a day is good for your overall health (forgot the studies). I wonder if that also helps reduce the risk of breast cancer in men?
